About the Community Peace Centre
The Community Peace Centre is more than just a proposed facility. It is the vision of six not-for-profit organizations in Greater Moncton. Their combined vision is to:
affect change through services, strategies, and education aimed at supporting
a peaceful, inclusive, and environmentally responsible society - strengthen the not-for-profit sector by creating a sustainable facility that offers administrative efficiencies and enhances service delivery capabilities
- work collaboratively to develop and maintain a unique centre that serves as a physical symbol and catalyst for peaceable living
At the centre of this vision is the development of a Peace Centre complex that
will be easily accessible to clients and community alike. The proposed 80,000-square
feet of office and community space will offer:
- separate entrances for all agencies to ensure client confidentiality
- an open-space atrium for the community to share
- an events venue that can be sectioned into separate meeting spaces
- kitchen and catering services
The proposed facility will:
repurpose a heritage property- be valued at $13.5 Million
- be environmentally friendly and financially self-sustaining
- incorporate environmentally responsible operating practices
- provide a one-stop resource for new and existing community residents
- be an educational and inspirational example for the community
- include an events venue and training facility — available and affordable
to the community - provide opportunity for the partners to co-deliver programs
and services - provide infrastructure and resources for the not-for-profit
sector as a whole - foster the development of cross-sector alliances
- act as an incubator for emerging not-for-profit agencies
Central United Church of Moncton is providing two of three structural piers to the Community Peace Centre. The Church building, at 150 Queen Street,
and its former Manse building, at 154 Queen Street, will be repurposed and joined by an atrium to the new building to be constructed on Church Street just
south of Queen Street.
